1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Alloy Sells for Record $4.62 Million

Recently put up for sale by Gooding & Company, the ultra-rare 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Alloy was sold for $4.62 million dollars at an auction, making it the most expensive purchase of its kind. With only 29 versions ever built with an aluminum body, auto insiders assumed that it would go for at least a cool $2 million, but it seems one auto enthusiast was willing to go the extra mile to add this baby to his collection. As one of the most iconic motorcars of all time, it can easily be said that the Alloy Gullwing is the most significant road-going Mercedes-Benz of the post-war era.
